Tips for what to wear for an outstanding professional headshot:

  • Your outfit choice should fit you well and be clean and pressed.
  • Solid colors are better than prints.  While black may seem slimming, it’s often too harsh for photos so consider dark grey or navy.
  • For most professions, a dark suit jacket with a lighter color shirt and a tie in a complementary color or a dark blazer with a blouse in a lighter color is a good option.
  • For women, a dress or blouse in a jewel tone like teal or deep purple is flattering on most any skin tone and against most any background.
  • For men, a white shirt is fine with a jacket and/or tie; otherwise, a non-white shirt with pockets or a polo is better.  A button-down shirt is best with a jacket or sweater for a layered look.
  • Avoid anything with bold or distracting patterns.
  • Keep accessories simple.
